Spa & Golf in The Idyllic Langkawi
Well look no further than destinations that will offer you the best in spa and golf.
The magical island of Langkawi, off the west coast of Malaysia offers the best of both worlds. Part of 104 islands located where the Straits of Malacca meets the Indian Ocean, Langkawi is one of the only two islands that are populated. Much of the island still retains its natural habitat of rainforests and mangroves.
Native flora and fauna abound the island, making it a peaceful haven in which to seek respite from the rest of the world. Also known as the Isle of Legends, great myths and folklore weave a mystical spell over Langkawi. From tales of a woman wronged to the delightful insights of the naming of historical landmarks, the island offers a multitude of sights to see.
For golfers, one of the foremost golf courses on the island to enjoy is The Golf Club at Datai Bay. Cradled between the rainforests of the Macincang Range and the Andaman Sea, this world-class 18-hole course boasts of both mountain and coastal vistas with a backdrop of the towering centuries-old trees with huge buttress roots and jungle twines.
Legend has it that the course is watched over by Mat Cincang, a giant of great strength for whom the mountain range fringing the course was named, who is highly amused at the antics of golfers attempting to swing their clubs as perfectly as he wielded his axe.
Taking a little respite from the heat, spending some time with some golf buddies or a partner, Langkawi also boasts of some world-class spas for you to sample.
Nestled by the centuries-old virgin rainforests and the fringes of the azure Andaman Sea are luxurious resorts, most with a unique spa concept. From Malaysia's first grand deluxe resort The Datai, located near the Golf Club at Datai Bay, one can experience spa treatments in the cool shade of the rainforest.
The treatments at the Mandara Spa at The Datai are unique and exotic, combining the traditions of Bali with the mystic of the rainforest at the majestic Macincang Range to create a haven of serenity of natural beauty. Its neighbour, The Andaman offers a spa experience of a different kind. The Jamu Nature Spa at The Andaman draws upon the rejuvenating influence of the Andaman Sea, the healing essence of the rainforest and the delights of natural spices and flowers to bring invigorating treatments.
The spa villa is perched high on the hill and the open balcony offers delectable views of the sparkling blue waters and hints of islands in the horizon.
With the open concept, you can enjoy a treatment feeling the soft ocean breeze while listening to the chatter of local monkeys. For the golfers, treat your skin to a rejuvenating treatment of After Sun Aloe & Lavender. Starting off with a cool fragrant bath, a special gentle massage of fresh blended aloe vera and lavender essential oil follows. While giving time for the lotion to penetrate and soothe the skin, enjoy a feet Reflex massage. This treatment is ideal for golfers who have been over-exposed to the harsh sun and who are looking to cool an over-heated body.
Another new spa just up in a luxurious resort is the JivaRhu spa at the Tanjung Rhu Resort. Set in a tropical garden setting, the spa draws inspiration from the Sanskrit word 'Jiva' which means life and blends together the very best in revitalising and purifying treatments from ancient Eastern healing traditions and the latest in modern Western spa therapies.
