Langkawi Island
The Langkawi group is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Street of Malacca just accross the border of Thailand. The largest island is Pulau Langkawi. Its main attraction are the beautiful beaches, but there is more to discover. You can walk around the island in a day without a rush.
KUAH TOWN
The main town is Kuah, on the south shore of the island. It is the landing point for the ferries from Kuala Perlis, Kuala Kedah, and Satun (Thailand).
Makam Mahsuri
The town of Princess Mahsuri is about 12 km West of Kuah. According to legend, in the year 1355, the beautiful Princess was condemned to death, although she swore that she was innocent. Several attempts to kill her failed. Finally, she was impaled on her own lance, and her severed head was bleeding white blood, a sign of her innocence. Just before her death she cursed the island with seven years of barrenness. Indeed, soon after that, the Thai invaded and burned all settlements. During this invasion, the villagers tried to hide their rice harvest, but the Thais found it and set fire to it. The place of the burning has since been named Beras Terbakar, the `Field of Burnt Rice`.
Telaga Tujuh Falls
The the Wester most tip of the island is the beautiful waterfall of Teluga Turjuh, meaning Seven Pools. They offer great swimming.
